With their invigorating and sensuous Rhythms, Reggae and Soca Music continually nourishes the mind, body and soul.
Each year the ReggaeSoca Music Awards will reassure this tremendously talented group of people that their talent and well as hard work will be recognized. I say thank you, to all the artists who fill our hearts with joy as we listen to their music in our homes, our churches, cars as well as nightclubs, without whom, none of this would be possible. - Winsome “Lady C” Charlton
| Background / Overview
The Reggaesoca Music Awards was first presented in 1994 by its founder Winsome ‘Lady C’ Charlton at The Bailey Concert Hall in Davie , South Florida . The Awards became a reality after years of deliberation, pondering and due to the lack of recognition for our music in the United States despite its continued popularity.
The ceremony consists of twenty five (25) awards in various categories namely Vocalists, D.J.s, Producers, Albums, Songs, Record Labels, Instrumental, Video and many more. Each year we have special awards for the following:
The Lifetime Achievement award is given for one’s contribution and success over the years. Past recipients include: Willie Lindo, Winston ‘Merritone’ Blake, Vincent & Patricia Chin (VP Records) Harry Moodie, Sonia Pottinger, Sir Clement “Coxsone” Dodd, Sly & Robbie, Sonny Bradshaw and Derrick Morgan
The Living Legend Award is bestowed upon a foundation artist that is still currently contributing to our music. Past Recipients include: Marcia Griffiths, The Mighty Sparrow, Derrick Morgan, Dennis Brown, Bob Andy, Winston ‘King Yellowman’ Foster, Ken Boothe, Freddie McGregor, Leroy Sibbles, Calypso Rose, U-Roy, Singing Francine and Judy Mowatt.
The Louise Bennet Distinction Award is given to an outstanding individual who has excelled in the Arts & Culture and entertainment field – Oliver Samuels.
The Vintage Award is given to a pioneer artiste or group in recognition of their influence in paving the way for our upcoming artistes - Melodians.
Tribute is given each year to an artiste who has moved on to higher heights, namely: Robert (Bob) Marley, Peter Tosh, Jacob (Killer) Miller, Don Drummond, Slim Smith, Garnet Silk, Delroy Wilson and Dennis Brown, Blues Busters, Cynthia Schloss & Wilfred “Jackie” Edwards.
The Reggaesoca Music Awards has maintained its success due to its star studded entertainment, the high percentage of artist attendance, its on time reputation, its undisputable voting system and delivering a world wide quality production with its excellent team of technical experts.
Along with its outstanding array of international artistes, performers also include dancers, dub poetry along with the delightful and incomparable artistry of our Masters of Ceremony Fae Ellington O.D. and Charles Hyatt O.D.
The voting is done by placing ballot boxes in local businesses, hosting voting parties at popular nightclubs, and on-line voting through our website (www.reggaesocamusicawards.com).Along with personnel from the music industry. Final count given by the assigned accountant.
